Hongkong Sausage Rolls

Hot dogs rolled in soft flaky bun is a delicious breakfast or snack to fill the tummy. The bun is mildly sweetened and gives a perfect balance to the sausages. This would look much similar to the American Pigs in a blanket, but the main difference is the dough. While Hongkong Sausage Rolls are more of a bread dough, American Pigs in a blankets is made with pastry.



Ingredients

Self rising flour 2 cups

Butter 2 tablespoons Melted

Yeast 1/2 tablespoon

Eggs 2

Salt 1/2 teaspoon

Warm Milk 1/2 cup

Sugar 3 tablespoon

Hot dogs 10


For the Water Roux or Tangzhong

Self rising flour 2 tablespoon

Water 1/3 cup


How to Start?


To make Water Roux:


Add flour and water into a pan on medium heat. Mix well and cook until the mixture thickens without forming any lumps. It's ready when you make a line in the middle of the mixture and the line stays. Set aside to cool a bit before using.


Now in a bowl dissolve the yeast and one tablespoon of sugar mentioned in the warm milk. In another bowl, combine the butter and eggs, set aside. In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt and 2 tablespoon of sugar. Now add the yeast, egg and butter mixture. To it add the prepared Water Roux or Tangzhong. Mix and knead well until a soft dough is formed. Knead for 5 minutes so that dough become more smooth and elastic. Rest the dough in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in volume.



After one hour deflate the dough and divide into 10 equal balls. Place 1 ball on a working surface and using a rolling pin, roll it into a rectangle. Place 1 sausage in the middle, leaving 1 inch of both ends of the sausage not covered by the dough. Cut 4 diagonal strips on each side of the dough. Fold each strip crossing over the sausage, alternating the right and left side.


Place them on lightly greased and floured baking sheets at least 2 inches apart. Cover the rolls with a damp cloth, and let rise until doubled in volume, about 30 minutes.


Preheat the oven to 180 degrees. Whisk up 1 egg with a tablespoon of water and brush the surface of the Bread rolls. Place it inside the preheated oven and bake it for 15 to 20 minutes or until the bread turns golden brown.
